Frequently Asked Questions
Do you require the GRE?
No, Hanover College does not require the GRE, however it is highly recommended. The GRE code is 4979.
Can I work while in the program?
Employment is not recommended while enrolled in the program.
Due to the pace of our accelerated, 6-semester (2-year) program rather than a traditional 8-9 semester (3-year) program, you are strongly recommended NOT to work. Although some students can manage a small, part-time job, others struggle doing this. Weekly workloads while in the program range from 42-54 hours consisting of assigned course materials (e.g., assigned readings, asynchronous videos, assignments, and synchronous sessions).
The accelerated nature of the two-year hybrid DPT curriculum requires students to manage a higher workload than traditional DPT Programs. The accelerated pace of the two-year hybrid DPT curriculum will result in a higher volume of work across the 2-year enrollment compared to a 3-year traditional DPT Program. With 18 to 24 credit hours per semester, students can expect an average workload of 42-54 hours dedicated to coursework each week.
Throughout program matriculation, the faculty recommends that students do not seek outside employment so that sufficient time is available for reading assigned materials, viewing instructional videos, engaging in synchronous class sessions, completing homework, participating in group projects, and fulfilling other course requirements, as assigned by the course instructor.
Does Hanover College DPT program require the TOEFL?
For all applicants for whom English is not their first language or those who have completed a degree and prerequisite courses in a foreign country, demonstration of English language proficiency is required through completion of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) within the last 5 years. The minimum preferred TOEFL scores are internet based > or = 80, computer based > or = 213, paper-based test > or = 550. The minimum preferred IELTS is 6.5.
Does Hanover College DPT program accept Advanced Placement and Transfer Credit?
All courses required for the Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree, both didactic and clinical, must be completed with the Hanover College DPT program. The Hanover College DPT program does not grant advanced placement, credit for experiential learning, or transfer credits from another program or institution.
Do I need to complete all requirements before applying? You can apply with some prerequisite courses still in progress. However, all courses must be completed, and a bachelor’s degree earned before matriculation. Additionally, you must maintain a prerequisite and cumulative or last 60 G.P.A of 3.0 or higher. Failure to meet these requirements will result in the offer of admission being rescinded.
Does Hanover College DPT program require clinical observation hours?
The DPT Program does not require clinical observation hours for admission into the program at this time. However, the DPT program strongly recommends completing a minimum of fifty hours (50) of volunteer or work experience with a licensed physical therapist. Students should also submit documentation related to their volunteer or work experience at the time of the submission of their application.
What is the class size?
The DPT Program may enroll a cohort of up to 100 students.
How will I be informed if I am accepted into the program?
Students formally accepted into Hanover College’s DPT program will receive an email informing them of acceptance from our program and the Graduate School.
How do I reserve my spot in the DPT program by submitting my deposit payment?
Upon receipt of the notification of your acceptance into Hanover College’s DPT Program, you submit the required nonrefundable deposit of $500 within seven days. This deposit will be applied toward your first semester’s tuition. Requests for short-term extensions should be sent to the Director of Admissions, Dr. Becky Parr.
What do I do if I am accepted into multiple DPT programs and have not yet decided which program I want to attend?
This is a common situation for many applicants. It is your choice to accept and hold seats with as many programs as you like until you make a final decision. Once a student commits and matriculates into a program, they should inform all other programs and withdraw their seat(s) from those schools.
Does the Hanover College DPT program require a criminal background check?
The Hanover DPT Program requires all students to complete a criminal background check within 30 days after seat deposit, prior to formal enrollment or matriculation into the DPT Program. An additional background check and/or drug test may be required prior to beginning clinical experiences in year two of the program. Applicants should be aware that a prior criminal background could restrict the ability to obtain professional state licensure. Acceptance into the DPT Program does not imply or guarantee that a student will be able to obtain such licensure.
Is class and laboratory attendance mandatory?
Yes, ALL virtual live classes are mandatory.
Additionally, ALL in-person labs, program meetings, and in-person clinical attendance are also mandatory. The schedule varies depending on the term of student enrollment. In-person lab immersions frequently include weekend dates, and some live sync sessions may occur in the evenings. Consistent and active class attendance and participation in learning activities are hallmarks of adult learning and professional responsibility for every student. Students must be present and on time for all scheduled learning activities and assessments. Due to the accelerated nature of the curriculum, even short absences from class can be detrimental to a student’s advancement within the program.
Classes, on-site lab immersion, program meetings, and clinical dates are scheduled well in advance. These dates are available on the program’s academic calendar, provided to all incoming students during orientation, and are communicated in the DPT course syllabi. Due to their importance and compressed nature, excused absences from lab immersion sessions are generally not permitted. It is the student’s responsibility to block these dates and schedule significant life events (marriage, reunions, etc.) accordingly.
Can I choose my location for full-time clinical experiences?
Yes, students can select from local, regional, and national sites for their clinical affiliations. To ensure the best fit and optimal success, these choices must be approved by the PT faculty and the Director of Clinical Education.
